FAQ's

1) What are the advantages of granite?

  • Durable, scratch-resistant surface
  • Endless patterns & colors to choose from
  • Each piece is unique, making it different for each job
  • Last value; granite will last forever
  • High temperatures will not harm it
  • stain-resistant when properly sealed
  • 2nd best resistance to bacterial contamination, only stainless steel is above it

2) Is is okay to place hot things on my granite?

Yes!  Hot pots directly out of the oven will not harm your tops!

3) What is granite?

The word granite comes from the Latin word granum, meaning granular texture.

Granite is a tough, durable rock that is composed primarily of three different minerals.  The white mineral grains, which are the most abundant mineral in granite, are feldspar.  The light gray, glass-like grains are quartz, and the black, flake-like grains are biotite or black mica.

The colors, texture, and depth of granite are enhanced by polishing the surface, which leaves a high-gloss, glass-like finish.  However, a Flamed or Honed finish is also available, giving the stone with a weathered or dull look.

4) Is granite stain-proof?

A common misconception is that granite is stain-proof.  It is not stain-proof; however, when it is sealed with a silicon based impregnator after installation, it is stain-resistant.  The impregnator attaches itself to the pores of the stone and allows the stone to resist moisture and stains, while allowing the stone to breathe and release moisture.

5) Will my granite scratch?

Granite is one of the hardest stones available.  Cutting directly on your granite will not harm it, however, if you want to keep your knives sharp, we don't recommend it!  Other stone pieces will scratch your granite so be careful not to place them on your counters.

6) How do I get a quote?

Simply fax, mail, or drop off a drawing, or call us to set up an appointment and we'll come to your home and measure your counters.  Then we'll be in touch shortly with a proposal for your granite!
