The easiest way to clean your granite is with water and a sponge. When soap is needed, use a mild detergent with water. Do NOT use anything with harsh substances such as ammonia or bleach, or a scouring pad. These chemicals can eat through the sealer we have put on, causing is to be less resistant to staining and bacterial contamination. After a while, cleaning with soap & water, you may start to notice a slightly dingy look on your counters. Do NOT use Windex to make them shiny. Simply use the stone cleaner/maintainer to keep them looking nice. It is mild enough to use on a daily basis and does not contain any harmful ingredients that could damage the surface. In addition to the stone cleaner will give you when we install your kitchen, we also carry additional stone maintenance products in our showroom that are available for purchase such as stone maintainers, disinfectants, and sealers. At the time of installation, we will seal your granite with a silicon based impregnator that makes your granite resistant to oil based stains and bacterial contamination. Although our sealer is resistant to oil based stains, it is a good idea to promptly wipe up any oil or grease that may spill on your counter top. Each stone reacts differently with the sealer. Some stones will not need re-sealed for 5 years or so and others may need re-sealed once a year. A good indicator that your stone needs re-sealed is when water starts absorbing into the stone. (In some cases, water will soak into the granite even after being sealed. If this is the case, your granite will still be resistant to staining).
